Synopsis

Disorder characterized by reduced myocardial elasticity, resulting in impaired diastolic filling leading to congestive heart failure. Causes include replacement of the myocardium with scar tissue, abnormal cellular infiltration of the myocardium, and deposition of a substance (eg, amyloid) in the myocardium. Patients generally present with exertional dyspnea, edema, and fatigue.
