Urethral meatal stenosis is an acquired condition defined as the narrowing of the urethral meatus in male children, sometimes after circumcision. It is associated with a deviated and difficult-to-aim urinary stream, painful urination, and urinary frequency. Other signs and symptoms include urinary retention, gross hematuria, and urinary tract infection.
Urethral meatal stenosis is typically noted during toilet training, with upwardly projected urinary stream, prolonged urination, or visual observation of a scarred and constricted aperture. It may also be observed in cases of chronic balanoposthitis or balanitis xerotica obliterans.
