Synopsis

A urethral caruncle is a benign, highly vascularized, polypoid growth arising from the posterior urethral mucosa. It is most often seen in middle-aged to elderly postmenopausal individuals. Most lesions are asymptomatic, but they may be associated with dysuria, pain, bleeding, recurrent urinary tract infections, and urinary frequency, urgency, or incontinence.
