Synopsis
Radiation pneumonitis is inflammation of the lungs after radiation therapy for malignancies in that area. Risk increases with the amount of radiation used, the size of the portion of the lung(s) that underwent treatment, and whether chemotherapy drugs such as bleomycin, cyclophosphamide, and carmustine were given concurrently. Common findings include cough, dyspnea, fever, and chest pain. Treatment includes glucocorticoids.
