Synopsis
The literature regarding JCBLs is sparse. In a single case series of 63 patients, there were more females and individuals of African descent.
The exact etiology of JCBLs is unknown, but most authors agree that there is sebaceous gland hyperplasia, proposing that it is a normal anatomic variant. There are no well-documented risk factors or exposures linked to the disease, but light exposure, systemic immunosuppressive therapy, including systemic corticosteroid treatment, and hormonal causes have all been proposed as contributory factors.
