Synopsis

Presence of blood cells in urine caused by medications, ranging from microscopic to gross hematuria. Implicated substances include analgesics, anticoagulants, penicillins and other antibiotics, statins, antiretrovirals, anticonvulsants, antihypertensives, and chemotherapy drugs. Some medication classes such as anticoagulants may provoke rather than cause hematuria.

Management consists of cessation of suspected drug and modification of treatment regimen to avoid long-term, irreversible damage.
