Ice pack dermatosis is a form of cold-induced injury that occurs as the result of prolonged application of ice packs directly to the skin. The condition has been exclusively reported in adults, most with chronic lower back pain that prompted prolonged ice pack exposure.
The condition is heralded by erythematous or violaceous papules, nodules, or plaques that may be accompanied by pruritus, burning, or a tingling sensation. Affected areas may ulcerate.
